Harold E. Freed

Harold E. Freed, age 81, of rural Montpelier, Ohio, died at 3:29 p.m., on Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at the Dilworth Center of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers of Williams County in Montpelier after an extended illness. Mr. Freed was a truck driver for Kuehman Foods for twenty-seven years, beginning in 1941 until the company closed. He was a warehouse man for Seaway Food Town Teamsters in Toledo until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Freed attended Macomber High School in Toledo and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a Staff Sergeant and served in the European theater, where he earned two bronze stars, and as a Platoon Sergeant in charge of a forty-truck convoy and also was commander of an eighty-truck convoy known as the Red Ball Express. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7574 in Delta, Ohio. Harold E. Freed was born November 11, 1922, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of William and Katherine (Blakely) Freed. He married Marian L. Waite on June 26, 1948, in Sylvania, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Freed is survived three sons, Robert Alan Freed, of Nettle Lake, Ohio, Joel (Barb) Weber, of Sylvania, Ohio, and James (Marlene) Weber, of Archbold, Ohio. He is also survived by three grandchildren. Memorial services for Harold E. Freed will be held Wednesday, October, 13, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. In the Nettle Lake United Brethren Church at 18560 County Road 5-57 with Pastor Jeff Davis officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7574 of Lyons, Ohio. Arrangements are by Krill Funeral Service in Edon, Ohio. Memorials in the name of Harold E.
