Carma Jean Moody, 77, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice facility, surrounded by three loving children Julie (Marvin) Matthews (Moody), of Bryan, Robert “Rob” Hartsock, of Bryan and Nathan Hartsock, of Swanton. In her final days and hours, she was visited by all three of her grandchildren, Tyler and Courtney Hartsock, and Hannah (Connor) Whitford (Hartsock).
Born on October 21, 1948, in Pioneer, Ohio, Carma was one of twelve children born to Gladys Miller (Baker) and stepfather Robert S. Miller. A graduate of North Central High School’s Class of 1967, Carma went on to build a long and dedicated career at the GM Powertrain in Defiance, retiring after 25 years of service.
Carma was a long-time resident of Bryan, where she was known for her hard work and devotion to her family. Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren, and she took immense pride in the lives they built. Carma was also known for her Christmas candy boxes, she would spend countless days making sweet treats for all her friends and family. Carma was a true “do-it-yourselfer, she enjoyed taking her ideas and turning them into homemade projects, which she would gift to her loved ones. She wasn’t afraid to use any power tools; you would just set her in motion and step back and watch. She loved gardening and working in the yard but always made time for friends and family and the occasional margarita night.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Clarence Stark of Bryan, Jerry Stark, of Montpelier, Michael “Mike” Stark of Bryan, and Ronald "Ronnie," Stark of Clearwater, Florida.
Her legacy lives on through her three children, Julie (Marvin) Matthews (Moody) of Bryan, Robert “Rob” Hartsock of Bryan, and Nathan Hartsock of Swanton; and her eight surviving siblings: Colleen Schenking, Virginia (Terry) Lockhart, Shirley (Walter) Knapp, Sandra (Mike) Smazenka, Nancy (Kenneth) Pettit, Dennis Stark, and Richard (Paula) Stark.
A celebration of Carma’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Defiance Inpatient Hospice facility for the compassionate care they provided in her final days.
Carma’s obituary was lovingly written by her family. Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry Street has been entrusted with her arrangements.
