Jerry L. Heer

Feb 4, 1957 — Oct 30, 2026

West Unity, Ohio

Jerry L. Heer, age 69, of rural West Unity, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on October 30, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Jerry was born on February 4, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Donna (Smith) Heer. He married Denise M. Albring on September 29, 1979. She survives to cherish the memories of their 47 years of marriage.

Jerry's calling in life was public service. He served as a police officer with the Toledo Police Department, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Following his retirement, he was employed as a bus driver for the Millcreek-West Unity Local School District.

Jerry was incredibly handy and enjoyed fishing and many other hobbies, including setting Denise's numerous clocks twice a year during daylight saving time changes and tending to their feathered and finned livestock. He was a kind, soft-spoken man known for his strong hugs.

A man of few words, Jerry understood that when something was worth saying, it was worth everyone's full attention. He possessed a wry sense of humor that often revealed itself in a slight squint and the smallest curl of a smile after delivering a quiet, well-timed quip. Above all else, Jerry treasured time spent with his family.

Jerry is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Denise; his daughter, Erica (Brad) Lennex; seven grandchildren; his brother, Jeff (Jerri) Heer; and his sister, Barb (Jim) Paulson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, an assortment of feathered, furry, and finned companions masquerading as livestock, and Boz, the beloved, albeit somewhat obnoxious, Rat Terrier.

Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Alan Heer, and by his parents, Joseph ("Bompa") Heer and Donna ("Nana") Heer.

A private celebration of Jerry's life will be held at a future date and announced to the family.
