Ronald “Ron” D. Wilson, age 80, of Hamilton, Indiana, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Betz Nursing Home in Auburn, Indiana. He was a US Army veteran who served in Germany during the Vietnam War. Ron was a machinist at Edon Machine/Simpson Industries/Metaldyne for 46 years prior to his retirement. Ron also served on the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, at least 15 years as Captain, and also helped the fire departments in Edon and Metz. In his free time, Ron coached Little League and women’s softball. He was a member of Alvarado Church and the Hamilton American Legion. Ron was an avid New York Yankees and IU Hoosiers fan. He made a special point to attend all his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Ronald D. Wilson was born September 27, 1944 in Angola, Indiana, the son of Herman C. and Effie J. (Smith) Wilson. He married Joyce A. Longberry on August 10, 1966 at Pleasant Lake and she survives.
Ronald is also survived by his daughters, Karen Fugate, of Hamilton and Diana (Stephen) Phelps, of Ashley; son, R. Scott (Melanie) Wilson, of Hamilton; 6 grandchildren, Johnny Fugate, Paige, Whitney and Taylor (Trisha) Phelps, Katelyn (Baylee) Fifer and Ethan (Kaylah) Wilson; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Jill) Wilson, of Angola; sister, Reta (Gary) Best, of Edon and sister-in-law, Mary Jane (Tim) Kurtz, of Edon; He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-granddaughter, Peighton and brothers, Cletus and Larry Wilson.
A celebration of Ronald’s life will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Alvarado Church, 8045 E 500 S, Hamilton, IN 46742 with Rodney Snyder officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service. He will be laid to rest at South Scott Cemetery with military honors provided by the Hamilton American Legion Post.
Memorial contributions are requested to the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department, Alvarado Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
