Rosemary “Rosie” Nester, age 96 of Edon, went to be with the Lord on February 23rd, 2026 after passing peacefully at home, surrounded by family.
Rosemary was born April 15th, 1929 to Earl and Edith (Schoonover) Schieber. She attended Edon High School. Rosie met her lifelong love, Otis F. Nester, after he returned from the war. On April 1st, 1946, they were married in Pikeville, Kentucky. Together they shared four children: Bill, Randy, Dave, and Milton, and would often be surrounded by her grandchildren as they grew, eventually being graced with great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. She took pride in instilling her values in her family and surrounding them with love, and teaching them to be generous, hardworking, and kind.
Early on in her marriage, it was easy to see just how important relationships were to her; in 1947 she was a founding member of the Farm Bureau Do-It-Right Council. She also found great joy in Card Club, beginning in 1949 where she and her husband would gather as one of seven couples that would meet to play cards for over fifty years.
She was an active, life-long member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, in Edon, where she took part in the Women of the Church and Altar Guild. She found joy in sharing in community and would take any chance she could to bake for fellowship or to support fundraising efforts. Faith was more than just reading scripture and doing a devotional—it was her way of life.
She delighted in her flower gardens as well as her vegetable gardens. Rosemary was an excellent cook and baker. She took joy making pancakes for anyone at her kitchen counter, peach cream pie in lieu of a birthday cake any time it was requested, and tapioca pudding at the ready.
Rosie didn’t know a stranger. She was kind, generous, and was the type of woman who made you feel known just being in her presence. Whether family or friend, Rosemary always looked for ways to impact others and would comfort in ways that are only present in someone who follows the Lord with devotion.
Rosemary is survived by her children, Randy (Ruth) Nester and Milt (Deb) Nester; daughter-in-law, Debra Nester, all of Edon; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, and two step great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Otis; and sons, William and David.
Her infectious laugh and perfect applesauce will be missed.
Visitation will be held at Krill Funeral Home, 114 East Hull Street, Edgerton, OH from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26th. The funeral will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Friday, February 27th at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gretchen Mertes officiating. Burial will follow at Edon Cemetery.
Memorials in the name of Rosemary Nester are requested to St. Peters Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
