Myrtle A. Armstrong

January 28, 1908 — April 3, 2005

Myrtle A. Armstrong, age 97, of Edon, Ohio, died at 12:35 p.m. on April 3, 2005, at Lakeland Nursing Center in Angola, Indiana, after an extended illness. Mrs. Armstrong was a homemaker and a member of the Angola Church of the Nazarene for sixty years. She served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent and in may other activity capacities for many years. In 1990 she received the Distinguished Service Award from the church for forty-two years of faithful service. She was a past president of Edon KALA and served on the KALA advisory council. She was a longtime volunteer at the Edon Middle School and in 1993 she was recognized by the State of Ohio for sixty years of consecutive voting. Myrtle A. Armstrong was born January 28, 1908, in Jackson Center, Ohio, the daughter of Lewis Phillip and Julia Frances (Wilson) Schaffer. She married William E. Armstrong on April 4, 1925, in Newport, Kentucky, and he preceded her in death on June 17, 1981. Mrs. Armstrong is survived by a stepdaughter, Glenna Derringer, of Bryan, Ohio, three daughters, Pat Hay, of Edon, Ohio, Shirley M. Tibbs, of Angola, Indiana, and Linda K. (Steve) Welmer, of Bradenton, Florida, four sons, Bill (Jenny) Armstrong, of Bryan, Ohio, Earl (Evelyn) Armstrong, of Hamilton, Indiana, Gene (Diane) Armstrong, of Perry, Ohio, and Larry (Kay) Armstrong, of Clear Lake, Indiana, twenty-nine grandchildren, sixty-five great-grandchildren, fifteen great-great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren, six step-great-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, three sisters, one daughter, Myrtle Eileen Armstrong, and one grandson, Timothy William Beck. Services for Myrtle A. Armstrong will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2005, in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio with Reverend Randy Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home in Edon, Ohio, from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5. Memorials in the name of Myrtle A. Armstrong may be given to the Angola Church of the Nazarene.
